Everyone has a passion in life and mine is writing. When I told an old school friend about my having a novel published, her first reaction was “all that scribbling you did in school has finally paid off.” That was many years ago and I have long-forgotten about the stolen moments of scribbling down my thoughts instead of listening to a lecture. Luckily, I seemed to have learned by osmosis and always passed with flying colors.
The creation of Behind the Shadows began as a short story, like the many other short stories I have written over the years. The difference being that the characters in this story became alive and took over my life. It took several years for me to complete Behind the Shadows and during those years each of the characters guided me through their trials and tribulations until their story was told.
The creative process took me on many a winding journey throughout the streets of my beloved home city of New York; and my mind’s eye transformed the hustle and bustle of 21st Century New York City back to the early 1900’s where my story begins.
Although the final period has been placed at the end of this book, my story does not end there as the descendants of the characters in Behind the Shadows have now come alive and are urging me to tell their story.
When I am not lost in the shadows of my mind, I enjoy cooking, reading, exercising and spending hours wandering the streets of New York City with my husband John and our lovable cavalier King Charles spaniel, Riley Rian. Everyone always asks us how Riley Rian got his name. Well, in case you are wondering, Riley, first, because we knew that he would have The Life of Riley (which he does); and secondly, because Riley means valiant and Rian means little king, which he is, our Valiant Little King!
